| How to Apply for Subdivisions of Historic Property
Historic review is required of any subdivision of historic property involving the division or assembly of land, including the division into two or more theoretical building lots.
Application for a subdivision is made to the Office of the Surveyor at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Room 2700. If historic property is involved, the Surveyor refers the application to the HPRB for review, where it is processed in the same manner as construction permit applications. If the subdivision involves an individually designated historic landmark, then a public hearing by the Mayor's Agent is also required.
If a subdivision involves only the assignment of a new lot number without a change in property configuration, historic review is not required. This type of subdivision is most often required for alterations or additions to property described only by an assessment and taxation lot (a number in the 800s). These properties must be reassigned a new record lot number before permits will be processed. |
